Publication of the Year (2023)

The judging process enables judges to assess each publication based on Writing, Communication, and Design, resulting in a transparent score matrix that elevates the finest publications.

Once again, the competition proved to be exceedingly challenging. Close calls and near-ties presented a formidable task as we meticulously reviewed the judges’ scores, thoroughly examined the entire product, and evaluated its execution.

It is a profound privilege to participate in this annual process, and witnessing the exceptional quality of the submissions. The SAPF acknowledges the courage required to subject your work to scrutiny. We extend our gratitude to every entrant for their submission, as it marks the initiation of industry benchmarking.

This year’s publication stands as a testament to narrative excellence, design ingenuity, and writing proficiency.

Judges Overview

STELLENBOSCH: THE WINE. THE PEOPLE. THE STORIES.  is an absorbing, informative, and engaging book. In different voices, it conveys great passion and love for the area and its people, the effort and vision that has made it into what it is, and the inspiring custodians of today and tomorrow. Vintage stuff. The writing is excellent. From the opening paragraphs onward, it is clear and concise. Impeccable editing and proofreading, no mean feat over a document of such length and variety. There is a great deal of fact and detail conveyed in this book, yet it is never daunting or overwhelming. Although the design is ‘conservative’ in a very structured way it is never boring. The spreads combine beautiful photography with balanced typographic perfection. Quite frankly, it forces you to open a bottle of wine.
